Day 132 of 365 Days of Boulderado Photos ~ Lobby Chandelier

Continuing with my newly discovered fascination with light fixtures, I never really noticed this one that hangs in the Hotel Boulderado lobby until just recently. Coming from a Broadway-obsessed family, I of course thought of the chandelier in The Phantom of the Opera.

Day 89 of 365 Days of Boulderado Photos ~ 3rd Floor Light Fixtures

Continuing with my newfound obsession with light fixtures, I wanted to share these with you and also share with you an interesting history fact. The three light fixtures you see here can be found in the southeast hallway of the third floor of the Historic Section at the Hotel Boulderado. These three fixtures represent the last three original light fixtures from our dining room's original decor, dating all the way back to 1909. Since I learned this, I have thought of it every time I pass under these lights, knowing so many former guests and employees must have done the same.

Day 84 of 365 Days of Boulderado Photos ~ Foyer Light Fixtures

I'm not entirely sure what my new fascination is with light fixtures, but I'm just going with it for now. Check out these lights that can be found in the foyer of our Events Center in the North Wing of the Hotel Boulderado.

Day 65 of 365 Days of Boulderado Photos ~ Light Fixture Covers

From time to time, I run across a sight like this one and feel the need to capture it. What you are seeing are parts from the light fixtures on our skywalk. They were recently taken down to complete a painting project, and this is where I found them -- lined up on a windowsill, seemingly watching over the property.

Day 17 of 365 Days of Boulderado Photos ~ Dual Light Fixture

This light fixture can be found in the Hotel Boulderado's Historic Section on the staircase between the 3rd and 4th floors. It's not original to the hotel, but it's an excellent example of the type of light fixtures that were installed here when we opened in 1909. Back then, people weren't all too sure that electricity would serve as a viable form of energy in Colorado; the high winds kept knocking the power lines down. To be ready for anything, light fixtures like the one above were installed that could run on either gas or electricity, depending on what was available.

Unique Light Fixture

On the historic side of the Hotel Boulderado, between the third and fourth floors of the staircase, there is an unassuming light fixture providing guests with illumination as they make their way up and down the stairs. This particular light fixture is a unique addition to the Boulderado's collection of antiques.

When the Boulderado opened in 1909, it was unclear whether the "new" power source -- electricity -- would be reliable. Particularly here in Colorado, with our sudden gusts of wind, the early power lines went down easily. To hedge their bets, the management decided to purchase light fixtures that could run on either the new-fangled electricity or the old, reliable coal gas. An example of this light fixture is the very same found between the third and fourth floors. The Boulderado purchased this authentic fixture from that period from the old Denver Capital building as a reminder of the history of energy the hotel has witnessed.
